Royal Tyrrell Museum

Where: Drumheller, Alberta

If you want dinosaurs, this is the place. Set in the badlands of southern Alberta (which are veritably heaving with the fossils of long-since-dead species) this museum really satisfies a palaeontological itch. It’s got everything you would imagine with huge dioramas that give a good feeling of the scale of the dinosaurs as well as the environments that they lived in, to enormous fossils found right on the museum’s doorstep. It is incredibly informative. There’s more to read than you could manage in a week!

Don’t miss: The preparation lab. Once you get over how strange it is to be peering into a lab full of palaeontologists working on fossils found in Alberta, it becomes absolutely engrossing
